Amber Jongsma, Store Manager
"The fact that I still work for WE Fashion is something I didn't expect at first," begins Amber Jongsma, Store Manager of WE Zwolle. "In a way, WE did shape me into who I am today." Amber is 18 when her career at WE starts. After finishing her studies in Fashion and Design, she chooses to take a gap year. Sitting still is not for her and so she starts looking for a job. "I once started as a sales assistant. A nice experience to fill the year with, or so I thought. I must honestly admit that I would have taken any job at the time, but I'm glad I ended up at WE. After all, we are already nine 'gap years' and a lot of opportunities for advancement." So Amber started as a Sales Assistant, quickly grew to Assistant Store Manager and then took on the challenge of Store Manager. Where she started with a small team of six, she now coaches 23 colleagues.

"At WE Fashion there is a family feeling, a belief in Better Together," she says. According to Amber, this is due to the short lines between head office and the stores. "You notice that you are a familiar face to colleagues at headquarters. The contact with them is very accessible and shows that at WE you really are more than just a name." On top of this, she says she gets a lot of space for her own input. "I get the freedom to put my own spin on something. This really makes the store feel like a second home to me." The latter does not go unnoticed. In March 2022, Amber will be named 'Store Manager' of the year. This title is awarded annually at the kick-off event. Amber: "Yes, I really didn't see that one coming. Something was read out that I did recognize myself in, but when I then actually heard my name being dropped, I didn't know what hit me." During this kick-off event, which takes place twice a year, store managers are invited to the head office to gain knowledge and experience and exchange with each other. It is a day filled with inspiring presentations, training sessions and fashion shows, followed by a dinner and party.
When Amber looks back on the past few years, she cannot help but feel proud. "I never expected to be where I am today. I am incredibly proud of myself, my work and my amazing team. I still enjoy offering them a listening ear every day and find it very beautiful to see how they develop themselves. I am also proud of the many great projects I have been able to work on. For instance, I helped set up a training course for more than 150 store managers in Europe. That was really very special." What the future exactly looks like, Amber does not yet know. But that she will continue it at WE Fashion is certain. "I walked into the shop and never left it, although I think my work on the floor will stop at some point. Perhaps I will then end up at the head office or fill another position, but I definitely see my future at WE."

Marije has been working at WE Fashion for three years and knows all the ins and outs of buying: "It's important to keep your eyes open, observe what's happening in the market and translate these outcomes - together with current sales results - into a new and even better collection. In all this communication and teamwork are key."
Shannon has completely settled in at WE®: “I’ve been promoted several times. I believe that anything is possible, as long as you are eager to learn.”
Patrick is a big believer in teamwork and very proud of his team: "I love working with them to develop an idea, starting with little more than a piece of paper and a pencil."
